:39PM | I Disappear
Some of you may have noticed that I have disappeared over the last couple of days. I am currently without home internet access, and in the middle of the process of moving into my new apartment. Hopefully I will be able to get back to blogging as soon as I get settled this week.

10:14PM | Ramblings Davey informs his readers that the long-awaited (for me, it seems like such a long time since the last one) next issue of New Christendom is being published tonight. It will be interesting to see Tim's inaugural contribution. The theme is music... I assume mostly music appropriate for church, psalmody, and modern evangelical music.
I didn't like the limitations of the Blogger template when I started creating this blog, but it's definite advantages over my Geocities host are an easier address to remember, and automatic archiving. As you mau have noticed by the long scrollbar, I have not archived once since I started blogging a month or so ago.
The Philadpelphia 76ers traded defensive stalwart Dikembe Mutombo to the New Jersey Nets, reuniting with Todd MacCulloch and Keith Van Horn. I am happy with this because Deke was getting old and his trade value will drop soon. Getting rid of his contract, and gaining a power forward which spells the end of Derrick Coleman's huge contract, frees up $17 million in spending money for a team that was financially tight. Hopefully this means the signing of a big free agent, like Keon Clark, who would make a better starting center than Big Mac. Now I have renewed hope for a Derrick Coleman, Eric Snow, Alvin Jones trade to Portland for Dale Davis and Bonzi Wells. And save that money for a run at a big free agent next offseason (Tim Duncan, Jason Kidd).
Bumper sticker sighting of the day, for good or bad: "Practice kindness. Perform random acts of beauty.

10:14PM | Off My Rocker
The latest from John Rocker.
5:35PM | C.S. Lewis
We humans have a conception of space as a dark, cold, lifeless void. I like C.S. Lewis' interpretation of it in Out of the Silent Planet, where Ransom realizes that planets are "mere holes or gaps in the living heaven - excluded and rejected wastes of heavy matter and murky air, formed not by addition to, but by subtraction from, the surrounding brightness", rather than being "islands of life and reality" floating in a deadly void. This idea is similar to Lewis' concept that heaven, which we think of as being slightly insubstantial and airy compared to earth, is "more physical, more solid" than our earth, rather than the other way around. C.S. Lewis has a way of taking unquestioned, universal preconceptions and turning them around to look at them the other way, showing that everything we assume to be true about things of which we have no physical experience is in fact unfounded speculation, and in so doing he stimulates the imagination.
3:10PM | Ready For Some Football
The Houston Texans debut tonight. I love the NFL and college football. If you can think of anyone who can seriously challenge the Philadelphia Eagles and keep them from reaching the Super Bowl this year, let me know.
10:21AM | Clan MacAonghais
Reading about the ancient Celts, I wanted to determine which of the three main groups of Celts my ancestral clan belonged to. The label "Celts" is sketchy because there were so many different clans and races inhabiting the Isles who have all come to share that name. But of the three main groups - the Iberians (commonly accepted as aboriginal), Gaelige, and Brightons - clan MacAonghais (derivation: MacAoghuis - sons of Angus) appears to be Gaelige. They were the earliest inhabitants of the Morvern peninsula in the western highlands of Scotland, moving there from the Isle of Skye upon the favour of the Lord of the Isles. This region was inhabited by the Gaelige, pushed into this region when the Brightons (Angles and Saxons) began aggressively settling coastal and southern Britain. This website has more information about the history of the clan.

8:45PM | Future Plans
So far my blog hasn't been quite everything I was planning for it to be. I had hoped for it to be an opportunity to practice writing and share some ideas, but it has rather developed into a daily journal. I usually blog rather late at night, after work when I'm a little tired and not feeling creative, or if I think of things during the day that I would like to blog about, I end up forgetting them by the time I sit down at the computer. But in the future I begin to hope posting short stories and opinions on various matters and issues that other people are discussing and I have been thinking about. Ironically, I'll probably feel like I have more time to blog and do so creatively when classes start in a couple weeks, and I'm in college and working full time.
